Have your popcorn buckets ready for the new releases this weekend. Audiences will be treated to a dose of nostalgia with some of this weekend’s releases. Whether you’re an action fan, a hopeless romantic, or looking for something the whole family can enjoy, we have something for you. My daughter already has her seat reserved to see Lilo & Stitch on Saturday. So I will have to wait another day to see Ethan Hunt save the day.

Releasing This Week:
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (May 23, 2025 | Action)
After nearly 30 years, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is still discovering ways to save humanity. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning puts Ethan and his team against a sentient AI, “The Entity,” threatening global security (Christopher McQuarrie). AI is sprinkled into everything, since we all refused to listen to the message of Terminator 2: Judgement Day. A topic that is more relevant now than it was just five years ago. Will this be their most formidable adversary yet?

Lilo & Stitch (May 23, 2025 | Animation)
Will this CGI remake breathe new life into a beloved story, or will it become just another forgotten adaptation, disappointing fans? Director Dean Fleischer Camp will have families on the edge of their seats with anticipation. As with the original film, a young Hawaiian girl, Lilo (Maia Kealoha), befriends a mischievous alien, Stitch (Chris Sanders), leading to adventures that test the bonds of family and friendship. The film emphasizes the Hawaiian concept of ‘ohana’—family. Based on early buzz this is shaping up to be one of the studio’s more successful “experiments.”

Fountain of Youth (May 23, 2025 | Action/Adventure | Streaming On Apple TV+)
When things get tough, who better to turn to than family? Luke (John Krasinski) and Charlotte Purdue (Natalie Portman) reunite a decade after the death of their father to embark on an adventure to find the fountain of youth. Director Guy Ritchie is set to put families in the front seat of this adventure. If you’re looking for a movie with classic Indiana Jones vibes, then this is one you should add to your watchlist.

Jane Austen Wrecked My Life (May 23, 2025 Limited Release, May 30, 2025 Nationwide Release | Romantic Comedy | Select Theatres)
Getting lost in the worlds of others is what every reader desires. The film follows Agathe Robinson (Camille Rutherford), a bookseller and aspiring writer, who is invited to a writers’ residency in England. What more could she need? Perhaps an unexpected love triangle. Currently sitting with 91% on Rotten Tomatoes (23 reviews), I anticipate fans of the genre will enjoy watching Agathe navigate her way down the path Austen paved. The trailer is a treat for any Jane Austen fan. Adding another layer for fans, Oliver (Charlie Anson) is a descendent of Austen.

Roll the credits
All of the movies here will be added to my watchlist. My review of Lilo & Stitch will drop on Sunday. Fountain of Youth is on Apple TV+, so maybe I can convince my daughter to enjoy a nostalgic adventure. Which of these movies will you be watching this weekend? No matter what movie you decide to watch this weekend, I hope it is a five star watch for you.
